Paris Saint-Germain secured their 12th Ligue 1 title after AS Monaco’s defeat to Lyon on Sunday. This victory marks PSG’s 12th league triumph in the club’s history.
PSG played out a 3-3 draw with Le Havre on Saturday to go 12 points clear of Monaco heading into the 31st matchday in the French top-flight.
Monaco seemed poised to delay the title holders’ celebration as they took a 1-0 lead in the early stages of their match in Lyon. However, the home side fought back and secured a 2-1 lead after 26 minutes.
Monaco managed to equalize in the second half with a second goal from Ben Yedder, but Lyon ultimately secured the victory with Malick Fofana scoring the winner in the 84th minute. This result leaves Monaco trailing PSG by 12 points with three matches remaining. Luis Enrique’s team cannot be caught, securing their 12th national title in history.
PSG’s draw on Saturday, coupled with Monaco’s defeat, effectively sealed the title for PSG, as they now sit on 70 points compared to Monaco’s 59.
The French giants are still in contention to win all four trophies available this season, especially considering that star forward Kylian Mbappé is likely in his final season with the club.
