Another blow for Chelsea! Enzo Fernández has made the decision to undergo surgery

Chelsea will have to finish the season without their influential midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, who is scheduled for surgery this week.

Fernandez, who has been playing through the pain barrier in recent weeks, has finally opted for surgery after Chelsea’s disappointing 5-0 defeat at Arsenal. The midfielder hopes to be fully fit for the Copa America with Argentina. This decision essentially ends his season, with doctors from both Chelsea and the national team agreeing it’s the best course of action.

The 23-year-old, who hasn’t been able to replicate his World Cup form since joining Chelsea from Benfica in 2023, expressed his desire to regain his peak performance level. “I’m trying to get there, to the version of me that you saw at the World Cup,” the former River Plate star told Chelsea’s website.

Enzo adds to Chelsea’s injury list and joins Romeo Lavia, signed from Southampton last summer, and Wesley Fofana signed from Leicester last year, as players who have been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury.

Speaking on Fernandez, Pochettino said: “We are going to do what is the best for him. We (as a coaching staff) have experience of managing this situation.

“First of all, the most important thing is him as a person, not as a player. It’s about how he feels and if he is comfortable with the situation or not. We will all support his decision (if he feels he needs surgery). We are not going to force him to do something. We are here to help and advise him of our assessment and experience.”
