Best to wait until levels go down

Martes, diciembre 16th, 2008

The levels of the Magdalena River’s waters are the main concern of President Alvaro Uribe, who visited the town of Plato yesterday.

According to the Head of State, it’s necessary to wait until water levels go down before repairs start on the dam that ruptured over the weekend, causing floods for nearly half the population.

However, he indicated that technicians will be in charge of determining whether it’s better to rebuild the dam or relocate the victims.

The forecasts aren’t very promising for this second wave of winter weather. The Ideam predicts that, due to the increase in rain, the water levels will rise in both the Magdalena and the Cauca Rivers; it has also detected growth in the levels of the Atrato and the Patía.
