Best to wait until levels go down

Martes, diciembre 16th, 2008

The levels of the Magdalena River’s waters are the main concern of President Alvaro Uribe, who visited the town of Plato yesterday.

According to the Head of State, it’s necessary to wait until water levels go down before repairs start on the dam that ruptured over the weekend, causing floods for nearly half the population.

However, he indicated that technicians will be in charge of determining whether it’s better to rebuild the dam or relocate the victims.

One thousand people affected and 200 homes damaged were the result of the intense rain this past weekend, which caused water levels to rise in several rivers in Chigorodó, Mutatá and Dabeiba, municipalities of Urabá, Antioquia.

Water also damaged crops and projects being developed by community organizations. The Governor’s Office will send humanitarian aid today.
