Uribe and Santos begin transition
What started out as a formality, an informal encounter to greet and congratulate the President-Elect, became the first transition meeting between President Alvaro Uribe and his successor, Juan Manuel Santos. According to the president’s Press Secretary, César Mauricio Velázquez, the meeting focused on financial issues and judicial reform.
Treasury Minister, Oscar Ivan Zuluaga, was present for a good portion of the meeting and spoke with the President-Elect about the challenges facing the new administration in terms of the economy. Uribe and Santos also discussed a bill that would give the President the authority to appoint the Attorney General.
The Government is prepared, at every level, “to carry out a quick and efficient transition with the incoming administration”, Velásquez said.
