An entire community was shaken up last month when a 14-year-old girl was killed in broad daylight just outside her school in Loreto; despite the shock, nobody “did or said anything, not even call the police”, Commander of the Metropolitan Police, Coronel Luis Eduardo Martínez, said indignantly.

The man arrested by police is a 39-year-old said to have been romantically involved with a girl who attends the same school as the murdered teenager. When the relationship ended he allegedly hired someone to kill her but the shooters got the wrong girl.

During a raid of the suspect’s home Police found letters proving the relationship between the crime’s mastermind and the victim’s classmate as well as narcotics.

In a search of the man’s home authorities also found several doses of narcotics
