Chávez takes it down a notch
Colombian President, Álvaro Uribe, applauded his Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chávez’, rectification of a previous threat to declare war against Colombia. For the Colombian Government, says Senator Manuel Guillermo Mora, there is now an “atmosphere of dialogue” that puts the country and the continent more at ease.

President Uribe says changes in Chavez' attitude are positive.
However in Venezuela leaders like the Mayor of Caracas, Antonio Ledesma, expressed discontent with Chavez’ flighty behavior calling it “irresponsible”. To Ledezma what the President’s threats unleash is collective anxiety that affects not only Venezuelans but also Colombians.
Tension between Colombia and Venezuela has all Latin American leaders on edge; so much that international advisor for Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Brazil is willing to contribute aircraft to monitor the border between both countries.
