Government is waiting for Farc to commit
A statement guaranteeing that it intends to free all hostages is what the Government is waiting for from Farc so that the process to release hostages Sargeant Pablo Emilio Moncayo and soldier Josue Daniel Calvo and the remains of Coronel Julian Ernesto Guevara can begin.
The guerrilla group has the option to give a statement via Senator Piedad Córdoba, the International Red Cross or the Catholic Church. High Commissioner for Peace, Frank Pearl, explained the situation and said the Government is willing to accept partial handovers as long as the commitment to eventually release them all is made. “What we’re waiting for is for Farc to say ‘we’re going to release them all’, because there can’t be first and second rate hostages. That is the Government’s position.”, Pearl said.
Meanwhile Senator Córdoba announced that with the help of former president Ernesto Samper contacts have been initiated with the governments of Mexico and the Dominican Republic to possibly participate in the humanitarian operative.
