Antioquia is a key region for the Santos administration
In a year that’s crucial for President Santos, especially if he hopes to run for a second term, the administration has been making significant efforts to increase its presence in Colombia’s regions. Case in point, five cabinet members visited Medellín to publicly defend their projects and present proposals, which proves that support from Antioquia’s residents is a must.
In recent days, the focus has been on three of Medellín’s top issues: security, infrastructure and healthcare. The first was addressed with the arrival of 1,600 additional officers ready to serve the city; as far as the second, Mr. Santos gave the green light to the prequalification process for the Prosperity Expressways, a project that requires an investment of 13 billion pesos. In healthcare, the President gave his seal of approval to the mixed EPS proposal.
