Ministers will try to find solutions to conflict
Colombia’s Minister of the Interior, Fernando Carrillo, said that President Juan Manuel Santos gave orders for four members of his cabinet to travel to the capitals of the departments most seriously affected by the coffee growers’ strike and attempt to find permanent solutions to the situation.
Traveling are Minister of the Interior, Fernando Carrillo; Treasury, Mauricio Cárdenas; Defense, Juan Carlos Pinzón; Labor, Rafael Pardo; and the advising minister for Social Dialogue, Luis Eduardo Garzón. They will visit Huila, Caquetá, Nariño and Antioquia.
The Government is especially concerned about the humanitarian crisis and vehemently rejected the fact that people who may need medical attention cannot get it because of blocked roads and restricted access.
Carrillo also addressed coffee growers and urged them to “avoid being manipulated”, he reiterated the Government’s willingness to dialogue and find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
