VivaColombia takes off from Jose Maria Cordova
Colombians will remember yesterday as the beginning of a new era in commercial aviation, one that will afford 87 percent of Colombians access to air transportation. VivaColombia, the country’s new low-cost airline, began operating two of the six routes it initially plans to cover.
The inaugural flights took off from the Jose Maria Cordova airport headed for Bogotá and Cartagena.
A visibly excited and emotional Fred Jacobsen, president of VivaColombia, thanked the country for welcoming the airline with open arms and said “we are here to make it possible for millions of Colombians to fly for the first time and for thousands more to do it more often.”
The airline is offering flights for as little as 54,000 pesos and will eventually add flights to Barranquilla, Montería, Bucaramanga and Cali. Initially the airline has threes Airbus A320, and the fourth is expected to arrive by next month.
Executives are confident that the airline, and the fact that its hub is in Rionegro, will open a large number of possibilities for thousands of people in the region.

Yes, I think it’s a good thing that Antioquia has it’s own airline with low fares but what I dont understand is why so much taxes by government….I tried to buy two tickets round trip to Cartagena and the cost that would be $160.000 was showing over $120.000 in taxes…I just think it’s just not fair or too much….Mr Saint…do something…give us a break…become a real Saint…now that you can’t control outlaws, at least work for some entertainment for those who never had the chance of getting into an airplane….. Alberteacher from Guarne thinks so. What about you?

This is great news, not only for our region, but our country as well. Clean competition is always good, it is time for more Colombians to be able to afford travel by plane, good luck to VivaColombia!
