BEP seeks protection for the elderly

In June, at the latest, the Periodic Financial Benefits program will be ready to provide 8.8 million Colombians who make less than minimum wage with the chance to earn retirement benefits.

“The idea is for people who make less than minimum wage to save and have lifelong income that is not heritable nor transferrable,” explained Labor Minister, Rafael Pardo. In terms of social security coverage the situation is dramatic, he said, explaining that 89,6 percent of the population is affiliated to health plans but in the case of pensions the percentage only reaches 28,6.

The initiative is among the reforms to the system for the protection of the elderly.

It blows my mind thinking that hundreds of thousands elders in Colombia survive with less than the minimum salary or wages…when One Percent of the wealthy spend millions of pesos to see Madonna in Medellin…they literally killed each other for the chance to get tickets of up to $1.200.000….You see, entrepreneurs only bring these so called super’stars when they are over 52 or in the case of Paul ‘old’ McCarthy when he’s 70 something… Let’s send a message to the One Percenters that the 99 percent of Latin America play ‘The Hunger Games’ like in the latest movie.
Shame on those with no heart…Alberteacher thinks so….what about you?
