Chávez has known about Rangel for five years
For at least the past five years, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has known of his recently appointed Defense Minister, Henry Rangel’s, ties to drug trafficking and the Farc guerrilla. This was confirmed by a 2007 document now in the hands of Miami’s El Nuevo Herald in which there are “sufficient elements to involve him directly with an investigation”.
Chávez has insisted on Rangel’s innocence, calling him a “man of integrity and a good patriot”.
